It’s that time of year when we sit down and imagine what would be the best destinations for families in 2027? So we pull the map and start dreaming about the best places to travel with our kids next year.

We still don’t know where we are heading for our next adventures, but I have this feeling that something is changing in the travel industry.

I think that in 2027 we will see more travellers, especially families, going beyond the most famous (and crowded) places and exploring up and coming destinations.

These last months I see more and more curiosity and interest for less known cities and countries. People are eager for meaningful experiences and want to share those special moments with their loved ones away from the mass tourism.

And let’s not forget the extreme weather conditions, especially the heatwaves, that are slowly but surely changing our destinations’ choice.

That’s why I put together this guide about the Best Travel Destinations for families to travel to in 2027.

I included places that already stole our hearts, and that I think you really must check out. But also, a couple of places sitting high on my list since like forever that would be amazing for 2027.

Reasons why you can trust this Trending Destinations in 2027 for families List

We’ve been traveling with our kids for 12 years now. Through dippers and bottles, then running after toddlers and always teaching them while exploring 45+ countries around the world.

All this time we saw the travel industry evolve, people changing habits, new places hitting the spotlight as social media exploded.

We are those parents that started traveling with their kids before it was cool! Seen by the whole society as a wild decision 12 years ago, family travel is now trending and growing.

And at the same time, we saw the mass tourism be born and increase and now we see how people all over the world are reacting to that.

Some of these are destinations we already explored ourselves, so we truly understand how they answer to what traveling families are currently looking for. Others are on our family wish list to 2027. I’m already planning itineraries, gathering practical information and dreaming about new adventures.

I hope this guide gives you some cool ideas for your own 2027 family travels. Maybe we will cross paths out there.

10 Best Destinations to Travel in 2027 for families with kids

I will cover a large range of destinations, from one side of the world to other. This 2027 family travel list has something for just about all the families out there.

1. South Korea

What we love about it: rich and enveloping culture, delicious street food, centuries-old palaces and temples, incredible nature and landscapes. And most of all, an incredibly welcoming people.
Why it’s trending: the increasing curiosity for K-culture and beauty keeps pulling in first-time visitors of every age. And Korea keeps responding with tourism infrastructure, more direct flights and better English.
Best time to visit: April to May or September to November.

We visited in October and the country stole our hearts right away. We just want to go back and repeat our road trip through South Korea.

To be bluntly honest I was a little bit sad we hadn’t made it to Japan. Korea had been on our family travel bucket list like forever, but I always thought that we would fly to Tokyo before flying to Seoul.

But Korea showed me how wrong I was and how extraordinary country it is.

Unlikely overcrowded Japan, South Korea still feels an emerging destination. Not because it isn’t modern and developed enough but because it stills goes under the radar of all those tourists that, just like me, would prefer to book Japan before Korea.

And that’s exactly why I recommend visiting South Korea in 2027 while you can road trip the country at a cool pace and have that rare feeling of actually discovering something new in a thousand of years-old country.

Seoul is an incredible city, but I definitely recommend going beyond the capital and visit Busan, Gyeongju and Seoraksan National Park.

We didn’t have the time to visit Jeju Island, but you should put it on your list if you are staying long enough.

Good to know:

When booking your accommodation in South Korea don’t assume that every hotel labelled as “adults only” on booking site actually is. Some amenities have indeed age limitations and that’s why the hotels get labelled like that. But in fact, a lot of those hotels welcome families and children despite how they are tagged.

I put together a complete guide on where to stay in Seoul with all the top areas and the best hotels. Check it out !

2. Picos de Europa, Spain

What we love about it: impressive peaks, turquoise lakes and the cutest villages lost in the mountains.
Why it’s trending: while Spain are reacting to over tourism on its coast and cities, travellers are starting to explore the inland and its incredible landscapes
Best time to visit: May to September

Northen Spain still doesn’t get a fraction of the attention of Andalusia or Barcelona. But it should and Picos de Europa are proof of that.

This mountain range gives you all the excitement and beauty of the Alps or the Dolomites without the crowds. What could be more magical than this?

We spent 3 days exploring Picos de Europa early May this year and we can’t wait to go back and discover more of this hidden gem. I recommend at least a week so you have the time to hike, explore the villages and take in the most beautiful views.

Travellers’ Tip :

When searching about Picos de Europa you will easily get the impression that you have to pay to visit everything.
This is not true. At least not if you like and want to hike and are able to travel in shoulder season, like we did.
Most of the highlights have free access. That’s the case of Covadonga Lakes and Bulnes, for example. You can check more info on this reel about the lakes and this one about Bulnes.

3. The Baltics

What we love about it: medieval old towns and castles, empty beaches, and bogs and forests till the eyes can see.
Why it’s trending: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania keep popping up on “most underrated places in Europe” lists. Maybe because these are beautiful countries, affordable, safe and easy to road trip. And yet, completely free of crowds.
Best time to visit: June to August and October

We explored the three Baltic States this summer in a 1-month road trip. Three countries with their own culture and landscapes but so much in common when it comes to History.

All the three capitals – Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn – largely justify a city trip. They’re not only beautiful but also have a really nice vibe and so many things to do and see.

What I liked the most in the Baltics is that these countries are so dynamic and can adapt to a really large range of different kind of trips: you can go deep into History, or hike the amazing national parks, or simply relax on the beach.

The Baltics were such a goo surprise that I can’t wait to go back.

I really think you should visit in 2027 before it gets too famous.

4. The Nordics for the Summer

What we love about it: endless daylight, thousands of swimming lakes, free BBQs in the forest, away from the heat and the crowds.
Why it’s trending: as summers get hotter across the south of Europe more families are looking for coolcations instead, trading hot days at the beach for lake swims and forest air.
Best time to visit: June and July

“Coolcation” is becoming the word for a real trend. And we did exactly that this summer before even knowing it was a thing.

We chose Finland but from my experience visiting the region, any other of the Nordic countries – Norway, Sweden and Denmark – are equally good options.

I will forever wonder why our stress levels immediately drop when we go north. But they do and it’s an amazing feeling.

If you never considered summer in the Nordics, I challenge you to have this experience in 2027.

5. Panama

What we love about it: the famous Canal, the cloud forest of Boquete and island-hopping around Bocas del Toro. All the Caribbean Vibes without the price tag.
Why it’s trending: Panama is calling for families who love what Costa Rica has to offer but are looking for fewer crowds and better value.
Best time to visit: Mid-December to mid-April

Panama was a great surprise to us.

Many say that Panama is only the Canal. Well, they couldn’t be more wrong.

The country is amazingly diverse, extensively covered by tropical and rain forest. Wildlife is everywhere in a balance hard to find in overcrowded countries.

The islands in the north are a dream with turquoise warm waters. Perfect for young kids. And in the south, you will find some of the best beaches for surf lovers.

Panama City and smaller towns are rich in culture, local cuisine and Caribbean sounds.

This country is definitely worth checking in 2027.

6. Oregon and Washington, USA

What we love about it: the wild Oregon coast and the waterfalls along the Columbia River, underrated National Parks like Mount Rainier and Crater Lake, and walkable cities like Portland and Seatle.
Why it’s trending: less obvious than California, these American states are as much scenic and diverse. And so less crowded and unexplored.
Best time to visit: July to September.

These two states hadn’t made to our wish list when we visited but they were the perfect conclusion to our 1-month road trip from Phoenix to Seatle.

The project came up because it was the cheapest combination possible for the airplane tickets. I’m glad we didn’t shy away from it.

Though the classic American West Roat trip is a must, I feel we were really missing out by not having visited Oregon and Washington earlier.

So, do yourself a favour and the next time you travel the USA, book your tickets to Seattle.

Oregon and Washington really are amazing destinations for families in 2027.

7. Malaysia (before it gets too expensive)

What we love about it: Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Penang’s old town, Langkawi’s beach. An incredibly mix of culture, food and nature for (still) a good value.
Why it’s trending: Malaysia is investing heavily in tourism infrastructure what make prices go up like it happened in several of its neighbours.
Best time to visit: December to February (west coast)

We visited Malaysia at the wrong time of the year and still we loved it! I think this tells a lot about the country, right?

It was May, we landed in Singapore on our way to Bali. And though we knew we would have a lot of rain on the West Coast we took the road anyway. No regrets at all!

Nature is still raw and free. Cities have that perfect balance between old and new. People are still genuinely welcoming.

But things are changing so I’m recommending it now with some sort or urgency before the concept of “good value” disappears.

If Malaysia is on your list so you better visit sooner rather than later.

Good to know:

The east islands have an opposite monsoon calendar. If you’re heading there instead of Malacca and Kuala Lumpur, take this in consideration.

8. Georgia

What we love about it: Tbilisi’s Old Town, the Syaneti mountains with their medieval stone towers and the vineyards of Kakheti. Georgia is an incredibly diverse country.
Why it’s trending: Georgia is consistently climbing in “next big destination” lists due to its dramatic landscapes, and rich culture and history. But it’s still genuinely affordable and free of crowds.
Best time to visit: May to October (though July and August are quite hot).

This is one of the two destinations on this list we haven’t actually been to yet, but it’s been on my list forever and I hope 2027 will be the year.

Everything I’ve read and heard tells me that this country is built around hospitality, home-cooked meals and friendly culture. And all my friends that have visited vouch for it.

Also, it is perfectly possible to drive around and explore on our own pace.

It really sounds like our kind of trip. Georgia had to be on my best destinations for families 2027 list for sure.

9. Eastern Canada (Toronto to Nova Scotia)

What we love about it: Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax and the nature and incredible landscape of in between. Road tripping in the Eastern Side of Canada is a joyful experience.
Why it’s trending: more families are discovering Atlantic Canada as the perfect alternative to the crowded (and expensive) Canadian Rockies and the US East Coast.
Best time to visit: June to early October

We have visited Canada multiple times. West and East Coast alike. And though the Rockies are undoubtedly breath taking I still prefer coming back to the East.

Why? For so many reasons! Where do I start?

Let’s start with distances, shall we? From Toronto to Nova Scotia, we could cover so much ground without ever feeling rushed. There are so many beautiful spots to explore. So many things to see and do.

And you have so many options of International Airports at realistic driving distance that you can always pick the most affordable tickets so you can stretch your family travel budget.

Also, I feel that in the East Side of Canada you have so much more time in the year when you can actually enjoy nature. While, from our experience, hiking and even kayaking is still possible during Automn in Quebec for example, it is not as simple as that on the Rocky Mountains where snow starts falling quite early.

And let’s not forget about all the Automn colours and the maple syrup you get in the East that simply don’t exist in the West Coast.

If all of these reasons didn’t convince you to visit Canada’s East Side in 2027, I don’t know what could.

10. China

What we love about it: the culture, the landscape diversity, the nature and the amazing food.
Why it’s trending: China is becoming more accessible to foreign travellers and investing a lot on tourism.
Best time to visit: April – May and September – October.

China is the other destination on this list still sitting on our bucket list. And it’s getting higher and higher as I discover new places every day.

Of course, I’m super curious about the Great Wall and the terracotta army in Xi’an. And the kids would be so happy with the giant pandas.

But I really want to go beyond the traditional highlights and I’m looking forward to exploring less known areas like Ningxia and Gansu.
